5 Tips To Combat Indoor Allergies
Tips
Spring is one the most beautiful seasons of the year, but for many of us, that beauty has a price. More than 50 million Americans suffer from some type of allergy. Allergy symptoms from a simple runny nose, to a head pounding headache. We don’t have much choice in avoiding allergies outside of our home. Inside our home is a different story, we will list five ways to help you leave the allergies at the front door!
Controlling Dust
Dusting your home is the number one way to keep allergens from accumulating in your home. First, let’s gear up, cleaning isn’t the most people’s idea of a good time, so don’t make it worse by not protecting yourself against allergens. A simple dust mask and a pair of rubber gloves, and a damp rag or towel are all you will need. It is important to use a damp rag otherwise you’ll just be reintroducing the dust back into your home’s airflow. Pay special attention to cluttered areas as these areas are typically cleaned less often.
Change Your Furnace Filter
This one is huge! Regularly changing your furnace filter offers a lot of benefits. Not only will it keep dust and allergens down, but also helps to extend the life of your heating and cooling system. When it comes to furnace filters, you get what you pay for. While a HEPA rated filter may cost a bit more, the benefits are worth the few extra dollars. If you really want to keep the dust and allergens at bay, look for electrostatic filters. Electrostatic filters are among the most effective filters besides a built-in mechanical furnace filter.
Vacuum At Least Twice A Week
Before you fire up the vacuum make sure its filter is in good working order so that you aren’t adding extra dust to your home’s air. Pay special attention to areas that have a lot of traffic as well as areas behind or underneath furniture. When it comes time to empty your vacuum don’t empty the dirt into a trash can in your home, instead take it outside and dump it into your trash bin.
Keep Humidity Low
This tip not only helps you keep the dust down but also helps you maintain a cool comfortable home throughout the hot summer months. Most homes today have a moisture control device attached right to the furnace. To see if your home has such a device, the first place you’re going to want to look is at your thermostat. If your thermostat has a humidity level setting, you’re golden. Simply run a bit of trial and error until you get to a comfortable humidity level. If your thermostat does not have a humidity setting its time to head to the basement. Take a look at your furnace, humidity control devices are typically mounted at eye level or higher. On the device, you will see a dial or digital control panel that allows you to change the humidity levels. You want to shoot for a level between 30 – 40 percent.
Keep The Bad Air Out
This one is as simple as keeping your windows and doors closed. We all love to have our homes filled with nice fresh Spring or Summer air, but for those of us with allergies, this is a no-no. This doesn’t mean that you can never enjoy the fresh air. Many weather services offer allergy levels for any given day. Simply limit your home’s exposure by only leaving your windows and doors open on days when allergens are low. This way, you’ll be able to enjoy the fresh air without risking you or your families health.
That’s It!
See, that wasn’t too much work, was it? While these tips won’t completely remove all dust or allergens, you can rest assured that you have improved your home’s air dramatically! At Anabel’s Cleaning Service, the health of you and your family is very important to us. That’s why our highly skilled cleaners take their time to make sure your home or office is spotless!

We’ve partnered with Clorox and are now using their line of Green Works products to bring you a better approach to cleaning. You are still getting the top level cleaning service you’ve always received from us, and now we are using products that are safer for your family and pets. These power-packers are tough on grease but include biodegradable and naturally derived ingredients that make them more environmentally friendly.
Having been trusted to clean households since 1913, Clorox wants to help those people who are looking to live more natural lifestyles. With no industry standard set for “natural” products, they came up with their own idea of what “natural” should be and then made those guidelines stricter. The result, as you can see from Clorox’s website ww.thecloroxcompany.com, is a line of products whose ingredients “are biodegradable, formulated to be nonallergenic, not tested on animals and packaged in bottles that can be recycled”. The Green Works products are even recognized by the U.S. EPA’s Safer Choice Program.
We are proud to bring you a safer and more natural clean with the Green Works products. No harsh chemical smells and no sticky residue, just clean.

Tips
Everyone loves clean and fresh smelling laundry, right? Just walk down the laundry aisle at your favorite big box store and you’re quickly overwhelmed with the scents and options to make your laundry ‘smell clean’. The scent additives don’t really do anything other than add scent, so why not make them yourself? Today I’m sharing a simple DIY recipe for a Laundry Scent Booster – it’s cheap and easy to make and perfect for adding your own personal scent to your laundry routine. Best reason to make it? How to Keep Your Kitchen Clean Between Visits
Tips
In honor of February being heart-health awareness month, we’d like to focus on the health and happiness of another well-loved heart: the heart of the home.
Keeping the kitchen clean every day can be a big undertaking. No other room sees so much function and use or has as much potential for mess (even when compared to the bathroom). The trick to staying on top of it is to tackle it every day with these easy tips.
Cook simpler meals.
Sometimes it’s not about how you clean, but how you make a mess. If your MO is to whip up a grand spread at every turn, then you probably have the kitchen chaos to prove it. Alternate with simpler meals, or make sure you have plenty of leftovers with each big cooking event, to be able to take advantage of a clean kitchen as long as possible.
Empty the dishwasher every morning.
Starting the day with an empty dishwasher is a great way to keep your kitchen sink and counters clear. Get in the habit of loading it throughout the day, and your kitchen will always be clean (or at least look that way for a bit).
Commit to a basic level of kitchen clean.
This means wiping down the counters after every meal, clearing dishes and sweeping the floor at the end of the day. Everyone deserves to wake up each morning to a clean kitchen, so make that vision your motivation. And a piece of chocolate at the end of the chores never hurt either.
Assign a special cleaning task for each day.
It’s unrealistic to think you can overhaul your kitchen like we do when we come. We have four people on our team, and we’re trained to know what to look for. While you are in-between cleanings, break down your above-and-beyond task list so that you do only one extra thing each day. This way, it’s easy to do and you know it will get done. Here’s an example list.
- Sunday: Check and tidy pantry (plan meals/grocery trip as necessary).
- Monday: Wipe down appliances.
- Tuesday: Wipe down cabinet fronts.
- Wednesday: Wipe down walls and backsplashes.
- Thursday: Pick a drawer to clean out and wipe down.
- Friday: Clean fridge, moving most-perishables to the front.
- Saturday: Mop or scrub floors.
Whether or not you use our cleaning services on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis, we hope you find these tips useful in keeping your kitchen clean and bright, so you can keep cooking up delicious meals for your family. Until we see you again (or for the first time), here’s to keeping hearts of all kinds clean and healthy!

Housekeeping Tips For Those Messy Rockford Winters
Tips
We’ve touched on this topic before, but messy Rockford area winters can be really messy, so we wanted to make sure you knew how to handle it. I mean, one day its a blizzard dumping mounds of snow in 0 degrees, and the next we have a slushy mess of ice, snow, and road salt in 40 degrees.
With this mess comes a whole list of problems for your home during the winter. Do not fret though, we are your house cleaning professionals, and have compiled a list of some of the best tips for keeping your home clean this winter. You can also see our cleaning tips from November.
Winterize Your Entryway
This is an easy one. Get 2 different mats for your entryways. 1 rough mat for the outside, that can be used for wiping off snow, mud, and salt. 1 absorbent mat inside, to soak up the remaining moisture.
Get a Basket of Slippers
What is better than a nice cozy pair of slippers? A cozy pair of slippers that replaces a dirty pair of shoes. Keep a basket of slippers near your front door, for family and even guests. This way, your feet stay cozy, while your floors stay clean.
Clean Your Heating System
Its probably been a while since you’ve cleaned your duct work. With as much time as your heat will be running this winter, it is critical that it is blowing clean air and not dirt.
Organize Your Laundry Room
With winter comes layers and layers of clothes. This means that your average laundry load will be larger. Just organizing your laundry room will help make it easier to handle. And who knows – maybe you will actually enjoy doing laundry now.
Schedule Monthly Cleaning
Sometimes, you just don’t have the time to take care of all the things your home throws at you. That is where a professional maid service can help out. As it turns out – we know a really great one right here in the Rockford area.

3 Tips to Keep a Kid Safe Home
You’re texting, cooking, cleaning, and laundering. You’re changing diapers, fixing breakfast, and picking up your kids at daycare. Your days get hectic and your schedules are full.
You may not think an extra second about that cleaning product bottle or container that’s still open or unsecured. Yet it only takes a second – one distraction, one step into the other room – for an accident to happen, for a child to get a hold of something not meant for them.
The American Cleaning Institute reminds parents and caregivers to keep all cleaning products up and away from children.
Be aware. Be alert. And help keep your family safe. Here are a few helpful reminders for moms and dads to help you keep your children safe:
Store products properly
Make sure your cleaning products are stored away from food and not accessible to your children or pets. They should also be stored in their original container and the labels intact. Your products should be properly closed, and never left in an open bucket.
Clean up spills immediately
Its is important that if you happen to spill any cleaning products, you clean them immediately. It only takes a moment for your child to get into that mess and be in harms way.
Insure your child is properly attended to
If you have to focus on some intense cleaning, it is critical that you child is attended to. It can be hard to focus on cleaning and house repair tasks, while keeping an eye on young children. Maybe save your cleaning for when someone is home with you – or hire a cleaner or a babysitter to cover duties for you.

Cleaning Up Christmas Tree Pine Needles
Christmas season is officially upon us. If you are someone that has a real tree, eventually you’re going to find your home covered in little pine needles. Its even worse when you go to take down the tree. But the problem is, sometimes a vacuum cleaner just can’t suck up all the little buggers. Luckily, Huffington Post has a great tip to help you clean tree needles from your floor.
First, wrap a piece of duct tape around your hand — sticky side exposed. Then, pat the messy area with the adhesive. And just repeat this until the floor is clean.
This little trick will save you time by allowing you to pick up the greenery easily and rather quickly.

Rockford Winter Housekeeping Tips
The winter will be upon us soon, and if history tells any story here in the Rockford area, we know that the weather can be very unpredictable. Much of our time during the winter months is spent indoors to avoid the cold. This means we have to be extra diligent in making sure our home is clean and safe. With these winterization tips, you will be one step closer to a clean & safe home.
Change Furnace Filters
Yes it’s easy to forget, but it’s important to replace or clean furnace filters once a month during the heating season. Dirty filters restrict airflow and increase energy demand. Here’s a worry-saving tip: mark a monthly check on your calendar.
Winterize Your Entryway
Place a rough mat (coir, wood, or rubber) outside for wiping off mud and snow and an absorbent mat inside to soak up moisture. Want to save money on heating bills? Consider one of those door guards that you put under your door.
Vacuum and Rotate Mattresses
For the best, most even wear on your mattress, it’s recommended that you turn and rotate it each quarter. The winter season is a great time to do it, especially if you are changing your bed coverings for the winter anyways.
Reorganize the Kitchen Pantry
The holiday season comes with a ton of kitchen duty. An hour or two of time spent reorganizing your pantry will go a long way in making your Thanksgiving and Christmas meals easier, and maybe more fun, to create.
Clean Your Lights & Chandeliers
Those Rockford nights are coming faster now that we’ve moved our clocks back an hours. This means we will be using our lights even more. Its important that they are clean, and free of dust, bugs, and other unsafe particles that make the lights shine a little less than they should.
Clean Your Gutters
If there is one thing that most people forget, or neglect, to do – its cleaning their gutters. Rockford is full of homes surrounded by trees that dump tons of stuff on our roofs, and that stuff ends up clogging our gutters. A clean gutter can better handle the snow, ice, and melt, keeping your sidewalks, entries, and yard, in much better and safer shape.
